Lidl is promoting a new mixed use retail and office development at Lidl Foots Cray High Street, Foots Cray DA14 5HJ.

Lidl’s previous planning application for a new retail unit, 5 residential dwellings and a small office unit was presented to the Planning Committee on 1 June 2020. The application received overwhelming public support with 97.6% of local residents in favour of the application and letters of support from James Brokenshire MP and the Local Ward Councillors.

The Planning Committee voted 6 to 2 against approving Lidl’s application.

Lidl has since listened to the committee members concerns and remain committed to investing within Foots Cray. Therefore a 3rd planning application has been submitted (ref.21/00312/FULM) to include a new retail food store and substantial office space above – you can view the application here. The redevelopment of the site will provide many benefits to the local area including:

• A multi-million pound investment within Foots Cray
• The creation of 40 London Living Wage Jobs (£10.85/hour)
• Providing over 3,000sqm of office space, creating further employment opportunities.
• 2 rapid electric vehicle charging points
• Enhanced accessibility including a pedestrian link and a new disabled lift facility for the benefit of the Hope Community School.

The proposal will address the Planning Committee’s previous concerns by mitigating the loss of the industrial warehouse by creating an equivalent quantity of office space.
